With the Daily News Online of Indian Air Force Strike Srinagar, Jammu, Leh Airports Indefinitely Shut on 26-Feb-2019

A day after the Indian fighter jets crossed the Line of Control or LoC before dawn and carried out "non-military, pre-emptive air strikes" to target terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed's camp in Pakistan, the Jammu, Leh and Srinagar airports were indefinitely shut. The move comes after an Indian Air Force Strike chopper crashed in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam this morning. Two bodies were recovered from the site, said police.

The crash took place after both sides across the LoC exchanged heavy shelling and firing. The area has been on high alert amid warnings by Pakistan of retaliation after Tuesday's strike by the Indian Air Force Strike.

There have also been reports coming in of Pakistani fighter jets violating Indian air space in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch and Rajouri sectors.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, in a visit to China, said India wants to avoid any "further escalation of the situation" and will "continue to act with responsibility and restraint".
The US asked Pakistan to take "meaningful action" against terror groups, with the Donald Trump administration calling for India and Pakistan to "exercise restraint" amid heightened tension between the two.
