James Dolan is being sued for his ridiculous salary and love for his band

A group of shareholders of the Madison Square Garden company has filed a lawsuit against James Dolan, according to reports from Agenda and Pitchfork on Wednesday. Its claim: Dolan, the CEO of MSG, is unfairly overpaid, “works at MSG only part time," and focuses most of his attention on his JD & the Straight Shot band.

The suit — which was filed in March in a Delaware court — detailed Dolan made more than $75 million over a three-year period (a number that surpassed every other CEO within the industry by far) but “travels and performs extensively domestically and internationally” with his band.

MSG tells the Daily News that the suit was brought by what it says is a trust representing a single shareholder.

"By correlation, MSG's friend organizations paid their CEOs a normal of $17 million for the same three-year period. The Daily News highest-paid peer CEO received $32.4 million, over $43 million less than James,” the Norton C. Willcox Testamentary Trust said in a complaint.

The MSG company owns 14 brands including: the Knicks, the Rangers, Daily News, Radio City Music Hall, the Rockettes, the Chicago Theater (Chicago, Illinois), the Forum (Inglewood, California),and the Boston Calling music festival (Allston, Massachusetts), along with its namesake arena.

MSG has since released its own statement to Agenda.

"This claim adds up to just corporate badgering. The organization remains by its approaches and practices," MSG said.
